Seven of them were in one apartment, while the remaining two of us, having returned from a foot massage, were in the other apartment. We were going to just drop our stuff then meet the rest. Five minutes, that's all. Then boom. The clothes on the laundry line started waltzing. The phone rang. You guys wanna walk over for dinner? We're ordering in. Are you kidding, look at the rain. Then how? We'll settle our own dinner la. If only the weather would hold for just a little longer. Left with no choice, we waited out the rain with the only form of entertainment we know - the internetz.
Ages later, the rain stopped, which was incredible because if you saw the rain, you'd think it's never gonna end. Hungry, we ventured out in search of food, only to step out of our apartment complex...into a river. Every direction we looked had water that went past ankle-deep. All routes to the estate entrance were flooded. And so we stood on our little island of road wondering what to do next. A car passed by and in the dim lighting of the street lamps, we watched the spray from the wheel continue on and on and on an on. The area had flooded once before, but not this severely. If the first time felt like a river crossing, this time it was a full-fledged obstacle course.
For the most part, I was clutching the shaky railing and half-leaping across gaps of water, all the while being vaguely aware that with every few grabs at the railing, I'd feel little crispy objects falling down my fingers. I thought it was just the paint peeling. It was only when I reached the end of the road, where the street lights worked, that I realised those paint flakes were actually tiny snails >.<
