Going Back to the Corner

It started with a desire for a drink to lift our weary spirits.

After a depressing day struggling to understand data that made no sense and equations that wouldn't cooperate while researching for elusive information on a project, we headed out of school (now I know how my friends living on campus feel) for Mexican food, on a friend's suggestion. Save the lovely fare at Bridge Cafe, it's the happiest thing I've eaten since staying at Beihang. Certainly, certainly, the nine miserable hours before that made the emotional difference all the more tangible.

The eatery was at Wudaokou; back to the lovely place we couldn't wait to get out of just two weeks ago. I'm sorry I ever thought that way. All the familiar sights of roadside vendors, snack stalls, Bridge cafe, the huge junction with the bright facade of Global Club. For all the inconvenience the previous apartment wrought, its happening location more than made up for it. (Where I am now, there is no place that sells a proper drink that does not require taking some form of public transport. And the roadside vendors seem to be trying to create a mini-economy based on (almost) perfect competition outside the gates of Beihang. Why are so many of them selling fruits??)

Post-dinner, filled with happy food and a vague reluctance to go back so soon, the two of us headed to Lush, a cafe-by-day-bar-by-night establishment that had been overly crowded the last time we visited. I was looking forward to the familiar, slightly bitter taste of a drink only to realise that the daiquiri I ordered was equivalent to fruit juice. The other drink - a White Russian - garnered the complaint that it tasted like milk. It tasted better than mine though. Disappointed with his drink, my friend decided to order another. This time, it was an epic-ly large cup of Lush Long Island Tea. 1.25litres. More alcohol content, he said, grinning gleefully. We finished it, after abusing the bar's free wifi for two hours odd.

In other news, I encountered Massive Subway Rush #2 this evening on the way to dinner. This time, I had to  shove a guy off the train so I could alight.
